back to plan A
after Glostah, my legs were feeling fine by Tuesday. Rather than give up a week of training, i thought maybe I had enough time to train, then rest the early part of next week. I had alot of personal stuff going on in the next week, so I thought I could figure it all out.
Well, Wed i took the cross bike out and did some 5x5min intervals. yesterday, I hit the road for some threshold intervals. I normally do straight blocks of 15-20mins. but I wanted to mix it up a bit - the first one, i did an "over/under" set. ouch. very ouch. the next set was a 5on/1off. not too much different than a straight block... but allows you to go just a tad over your LT. I started the 3rd block, and just popped.
so, i wasnt as fresh as I had hoped. I think it really is time for a rest.
so here is my sched for the next week:
fri: easy / play video games - maybe download HL2:EP2
sat: easy ride / hang out with allie
sun: allie's 5k / no ride
mon: easy ride
tues: easy ride
wed: no ride / Dan Blakeslee's Halloween show
thurs: back to training!!
fri: easy
sat: open up for canton
sun: kill it at canton
so that plan will give me 5 days of rest. i hope/think that will help add some snap back into the legs ;)

you are a wise young jedi...
freaking fast too...
some thoughts based on my extremely limited experience:
the problem with that is you aren't gonna have much intensity in your legs going into canton and you may actually loose a bit. I never feel (or go) fast coming out of a rest week where I just did easy rides most of the week and some days off. you loose the edge. it comes back quick, but it won't be there from canton.
if you really want to be fast for canton, why not rest/recover the weekend, and start doing some shorter but intense rides midweek (tues/wed). this will have the effect to sharpen (sort of mini peak) for canton, if you really want to do well at canton. if it doesnt really matter to you, then by all means take a rest week. but if you want to kill at canton, i wouldnt reccomend rest week into it. at least it wouldnt work for me (it may work for you).
just some thoughts to consider, we'll miss you this weekend. see ya at canton fo sho
yeah... i have had the same experience coming out of a rest week.
thats why i will be back to training on thursday... rest friday... open up sat really good... race sunday.
wed night is tight... thus the move to thursday.. but i think having a couple intensity days before canton should be fine.
the only time im really stale is if i did nothing all week, then just show up race day.. yikes.
good luck this weekend, josh. kill it yo!
hopefully that works for you, heck the only training I've been getting in lately are my races (or lack of) and the occasional ride to work or 1hr lunch ride. Dang is it difficult to get riding in with it getting dark out so early now.
Cool. Lets dominate at Canton.
