New Music Tuesday

good week of new music.
Les Savy Fav - Lets Stay Friends
I already mentioned it a few times, posted songs, and even some videos. On first listen, i was confused. It wasnt quite what i was expecting, especially after listening to the first released "single", which had a feel of "3/5" or "ROME". The rest of the CD takes a turn. One that took me about 5 days of listening to it non-stop to really get into. I'm not one to love stuff on first listen, and this album isnt an exception. Even "Go Forth" sat on my shelf for about 4 months before I gave it another listen, and then it promply became my favorite album of 2001.

Anyways, go to BV, and download the few songs he posted... or better yet, just sign up for emusic, and use your first free downloads to ge the whole album. (email me for a referal).

Black Francis - Blue Finger
How did I not know about this until a week before it's release. Im listening it to it right now for the first time. Frank Black has always had the struggle of putting out a kick ass album, but then having people like me saying "yeah, but its not 'Doolittle'". Anyways, Frank takes on the "Black Francis" name again and puts out an album that resembles a mix between his first solo album & the last pixies album. Definately a harder take on things than the last 10 years of his solo stuff... but dont expect a new version of 'Surfer Rosa'.

Dan Blakeslee - Lincoln Street Roughs
Dan was in manchester last night & we hung out for a bit at the Bridge Cafe drinking coffee, talking music, and remembering the good ol days at the Elvis Room. Milly's Tavern in manch, is not really the type of place i want to hang out on a Friday night. The type of meatheads that hang out there give manch a bad (worse) name. So I was surprised (nervous) to hear Dan tell me he was playing there. Me & Allie headed down there around 9pm to check it out. Such a good show (aside from the fratboy douchebags behind us). He was planning to have a full band there, which i have never seen him play with... but it didnt work out, so it was just him & the guitar. and it was great. Anyways, we picked up a copy of his new album. I have only listen to a couple songs, but so far its totally solid.

stay tuned. he may try to get to Manch for one of his famous halloween shows. :)
